Restaurants in Cape Town with private dining rooms / function rooms

There are various reasons why you might want a private room at a restaurant. It might be a business meal so it needs to be quieter, or it might be a meal with friends but a special occasion where you want some privacy. Maybe you just don’t feel like cooking but want to entertain some guests. I recently organised a batchelor’s dinner in the private dining room of Riboville and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Unfortunately Riboville is closed now but the following restaurants also offer private or semi private dining or function rooms:

Totally Private Dining Room

96 Winery Road in Somerset West has a cellar room (I’m not sure how many it seats)
Beluga has the wine attic upstairs which can hold several tables or one big table
Caveau offers the Vine Room underneath Heritage Hotel (town) as well as The Boiler Room at the Mill (Southern Suburbs)
Cellars Hohenhort has a cellar for 2
Cheyne’s is a restaurant which is for functions only. It seats up to 16 at the one long table and he will make the menu up according to your budget and tastes
Doppio Zero in Greenpoint has an 8 seater private dining room
Five Flies has a private table for 2 in the wine cellar, very romantic. But the restaurant is also made up of many rooms so you could fill a room with your party
Krugmann’s Grill at the Waterfront can move dividers around to make a private room to suit your requirements
La Colombe has private room for 6
Limoncello has a room upstairs
Myoga at the Vineyard hotel
Pigalle – not sure of the size
Roundhouse – Table for 8
Zucca – Table for 12

Separate room in restaurant
Some restaurants have several rooms, if the room is small enough or your party is big enough you can have the room to yourself.

95 Keerom
Catharina’s
on Steenberg Estate
Kitima in Hout Bay
Maze at the One & Only has a chef’s table and they can also cordon off a section of the restaurant
Opal Lounge
Societi Bistro
has a chef’s table, 8 or 14 seater
Yindees

Function facilities

Grand Daddy Hotel
Cassia on Ntida estate
Cafe Sofia (Greenpoint)
has the Black Room which accommodates about 30 people and has it’s own bar.

DISCLAIMER: This list is based mostly on reader feedback and I haven’t confirmed all of them so some could be in the incorrect category.

  1. Hey Dax, great list. I think Cheyne’s has the x-factor. I reviewed it recently and was really impressed with the vibe…

  2. Thanks for this. Kink will soon have a private dining room too, so I’ve decided to hold my friend’s bachelorette there. Another one not on your list is Saigon. Their upstairs section is small and serves very well as a private dining room – plus there’s a balcony for smokers.

  3. hi Dax

Brio has the La La lounge with private dining for up to 18 pax, next to a cosy fire.

  4. Kink and Zucca no longer exist.

  5. Greenpoint Cafe Sofia has also closed down
