Regular readers will know that this is not a promotion website. I only promote things that I really like and I don’t get any financial benefit from it.
I’m definitely more into electro/housey music, which is why Goldfish and Coda are my favourite Cape Town bands. But the other day I was listening to the radio and found myself enjoying a particular tune which was more in the rock/punk category. I was pleased to hear that it was a South African band, and from Cape Town no less (no surprise really, CT is dominating the SA music scene).
The Dirty Skirts is the name of the band, the name of the song was ‘Homewrecker’. I have heard of the band before but never paid much attention, so I have not seen them live, but hope to soon. I did some digging and found their MySpace page, where you can listen to some of their other tracks. I also found their webpage which is not very exciting, but if you click through to the old site, you can download tracks and a music video.
The other tracks were also pretty good, so I have ordered their album, A Stellar Bender, from Kalahari.net, click here to check it out.

I’ve been listening to the album in my car since it arrived and I’m liking it a lot. My favourite tracks are ‘Homewrecker’ and ‘Spirit is the new black’, but there aren’t any tracks that I skip past.
I’m from Cape Town and the Dirty Skirts are an insanely amazing band and seeing them live is an experience that is 2nd to NONE! On A Stellar Blender has to be one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded on South African soil and i really believe that through good marketing ‘Homewrecker’ could become a timeless rock hit! I’m really glad to see that people dig them as much as most Capetonians do!!! keep spreading the word! peace
