I have some good news for everyone (in SA). Clover dairy products and Woolworths dairy products are now Bovine Somatotrophin (rBST) free. You should see a little ‘rBST free’ label on the products. I would advise you to buy only these dairy products.
For those who do not know anything about rBST, here is a brief explanation: Basically farmers are injecting an artificially manufactured growth hormone into cows to make them produce more milk. Studies show that it is not good for humans to consume milk from cows which have been injected with rBST. In addition, it is very bad for the cows and causes them all sorts of health problems eg mastitis, which is a very painful inflammation of the udder.

I spotted an interesting article today about a study showing that organic milk is much higher in nutrients than the non-organic alternatives.
