Last week I attended the awards ceremony for the Wine Magazine Sauvignon Blanc competition. It was held at Bread & Wine on Moreson estate, which was one of the main reasons I went. I haven’t been there for ages despite it being one of my favourite restaurants. Unfortunately the lunch was not up to their usual standard so that was quite disappointing and forced me to pay attention to the wines.
I tasted all of them and realised that I don’t really like good sauvignon blancs! I’m more of a red wine drinker so probably need to refine my palate more when it comes to whites. I did like a few of them, my favourite being the First Sighting (from the Elim region – I also didn’t know where that is, but it’s Cape Agulhas). It was one of three 2009 sauvignon blancs in the top ten and the other two were also high on my list (Graham Beck Pheasant’s Run and Groote Post Reserve).
Here’s the list of winners, you can give them a try and let me know what you think in the comments section.
