  • Who do you call when you need a top restaurant (Good food, good wine and great ambiance!) on a Friday night for 250 people in the Cape Town city bowl area? Well that’s exactly what I did to Dax and gave him 1 week to organize it. After hearing of the original restaurant that was booked I knew we had to change it. We were hosting all our key business partners from around the country and had our reputation to uphold. We were not disappointed! The comments from all that dined were very complimentary. Testament to this was that the fullest bus back to the Hotel was the 23:30 bus! Well done Dax! -Stephen Blewett, Managing Director, Altech Autopage Cellular

    Hey Daxo,
Loving the new RSS feed functionality that WordPress gives you… I get notified in Outlook when you post something to RWD!!! Why don’t you post a link to the MS help page that tells people how to add the RSS feed to their Outlook…

  2. Beth Goodson May 23, 2007 at 9:11 pm

  6. antoinette October 12, 2007 at 2:57 pm

Hey dere Dax, where your review on Out of Time? I would love to hear your comments.

  7. Annalize November 5, 2007 at 7:20 pm

We have only been living in CT for 18 Months, but it is home to our little family already! I so appreciate all the reviews, since the people who have been staying in CT for a long time does not seem to be able to point you to a nice place when you ask them. They seem to always go to the same place and we want to see the whole of CT! It might not be a place you would enjoy, but how about writing about some places the kiddies will enjoy as well? Thank you for sharing you experiences!

  8. Romana Knuth November 19, 2007 at 5:21 pm

How impressive: you even have fans! And I dont care what the other people say: dont let it bother you that your aficionados are restricted to relatives, close family friends and employees. Fans are fans. To prove the point, please add me to your mailing list.

    Your devoted cousin, Romana

I found your site quite by accident but like it

  10. kirsty wilmot March 4, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Hey there Dax, Sorry this is not relevant to the article attached but I require your help!!
Met you when I was out in S.A in May with an old friend of mine Jenni Walsh. I have been very lax in communicating with others for various reason and would love it if you would be kind enough to either send me Jen’s e-mail add or pass mine on to her.
I hope life is treating you well and that you’re making the most of the great summer you’re having. It’s been rather cold over here and I can’t wait for it to start warning up again- had snow yesterday morning!!!
Have a G@T for me in the sunshine, best wishes, Kirsty Wilmot (North Yorkshire Capetonian)

  17. Kaashifah April 20, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Any possibility of you reviewing more bars? You’ve only got 2 and they’re very very old…
Or you do know of another blog that reviews bars in Cape Town?

  18. Dax April 20, 2009 at 1:23 pm

I normally review bars in the newsletters as there isn’t usually much to say.

Future plans do involve a more comprehensive venue listing with short descriptions and reviews so watch this space.

  19. Patricia June 11, 2009 at 7:07 am

    Hi Dax
I knew your uncle Ronald Dreyer. He was a truly wonderful man who did great things. He not only believed in what he was doing to prevent armed violence, he was able to be highly effective. His death is a great loss to us all. I hope that you will continue to post stuff about preventing armed violence. With very best regards
    Patricia Lewis, Monterey, California

  20. Chris August 10, 2009 at 9:01 am

Hi Dax, have you tried The Kitchen yet in Woodstock? We were there on Sat morning and the service was warm and friendly, Karen, the chef came up to tell us what she had going for the day, which was great. The place is small, quaint and old world, but just the thing you may want on a Saturday morning. We had the scrambled eggs and mozzarella on croissant….it was fantastic, with a dollop of her tomotoe ‘pesto’ on too. Roughly R30 a meal, which we were very happy with. It was the best breakfast we have had in terms of flavour and service. This meal was suggested by Karen herself who said she could throw it together based on what she had in that morning. Also have you tried Origin’s upstairs restaurant yet? going there this morning.

  21. Dax August 10, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Chris, thanks for reminding me about The Kitchen, someone else recommended it to me a little while ago and it had slipped my mind. I will try get there soon.

  22. Kev August 28, 2009 at 3:09 pm

Reading your site makes me miss the company and good times shared around breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and drinks… Keep up the good work …

  23. Debbie September 29, 2009 at 8:55 pm

    Hi Dax
Rotisserie 360 closes at 18h00 (including Thursdays I’m afraid). My shop is a hole-in-the-wall where patrons can have lunch (pavement dining) or collect a roast chicken (free range) to take home for dinner. So if you find yourself in my area again at an earlier time of the evening, I invite you to come and buy a chicken for dinner or join us on the curb for lunch. I hope that you can then post a more positive comment on your twitter page that will make me smile rather than frown. Kind regards, Debbie.

  24. Dax September 29, 2009 at 9:55 pm

Hi Debbie, thanks for telling us a little about Rotisserie 360. I now understand why it was closed at that time and will hopefully have an opportunity to get there earlier some time soon.

I’m not sure why my comment made you frown, I didn’t say anything negative.

  25. Dan October 27, 2009 at 9:33 am

Maybe it’s just my laptop but I can’t read a thing on the first half of each page – black text on black page (gets lighter at the bottom so can just about make out the text). Am I missing something?

  26. Paula November 2, 2009 at 3:30 pm

Wondering why my validation to your site is taking forever?
    Do you have any influence!!!

  27. Graham Berry January 3, 2010 at 7:23 pm

    Hi Dax,

It was awesome being seen around Cape Town with you, than for showing us around.

  28. Jean McFarlane February 22, 2010 at 7:55 pm

I think you should bag the line – ” the legend CAPE TOWN AMBASSADOR’, perhaps I should get your fans to vote it in? There is no-one who deserves the title – go on!

    1. Dax February 22, 2010 at 9:03 pm

The Legend seems a bit OTT, but I do need to change the poll anyway so let’s see what the fans think…

  29. Hamish February 23, 2010 at 1:45 pm

Pedantry perhaps, but “Cape Town’s Ambassador” would be based in another city, just as South African Ambassadors are based overseas.

    How about “Cape Town’s Concierge”?

    i like cape town’s concierge

  33. Brenda March 30, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Thought I would catch up on your site. You could elaborate on your tag line – What’s what and hot in Cape Town!

Living the good life in Cape Town (with a conscience)(keeping it green)

But whatever works for you. Hope to catch up soon.

  34. Pips May 19, 2010 at 9:52 am

  35. Carla June 7, 2010 at 8:03 pm

PS – I love your website as i love trying out restaurants and ofcourse reading all the reviews.

  36. penny June 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm

i used to enjoy your blog but no more. You have become a bit of a sellout, always getting your freebies. So Dax I say totsiens.

  37. Carla July 3, 2010 at 11:31 pm

O by the way Penny, as per your last comment, i am glad i came across Dax’s website, so if he can get complimentary meals, that’s fine by me as long as he keeps us all up to date with the restaurants. Thanks Dax, keep it up! And go and get those free meals!

  38. Dax July 4, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Thanks for the support Carla. Theoretically Penny won’t see it but I appreciate it nonetheless.

Ps, I moved your other comment to my Roundhouse review as I thought it was more applicable there.

  39. Leah July 21, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I just recently read an article about you, Dax, in the Sunday Times Newspaper. “Helping people enjoy the Cape”. I thought I might enlighten you on a great experience I had while visiting some friends here in Cape Town. Being a bigger breasted lady, finding nice and comfy bras is ‘hell’.

Well I finally did!! It’s called the Treasure Chest collection. I had such a nice experience, great service, great lingerie and they even directed me to agents close to home. Even though, I wouldn’t mind using that as an excuse to come visit Cape Town more often. Pretty lingerie is just a MUST HAVE for all women!!

Great blog by the way. Love it!

  40. Roga Rabbit September 9, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Hey fatso…what gives you the right to be a food critic? Just because you a over the hill bald fat man with no steady job doesnt give you the right to criticise restaurants! Get a life and a job and grow up!!

  41. Barry September 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm

    Hi Dax,
I live in London now, but often log on to see whats hot and new and look forward to returns to the Cape to try them out.
Keep up the blogs so I know what I missing out on!
ps: suggest a nice place for rabbit stew for roga rabbit’s comment.

  42. kosKOP September 9, 2010 at 3:04 pm

*ahem* Roga rabbit must be a restaurant owner, so obvious!

  43. Interloper September 9, 2010 at 3:05 pm

How rude… I happen to think you are quite a hottie actually. The food bit is just an added bonus.

  44. Foxy September 9, 2010 at 3:25 pm

Agree with KosKOP…a sh*tty restaurant owner no doubt 😉

  45. Carla September 9, 2010 at 9:48 pm

I think it’s one of Dax’s friends trying to spice things up -am i right? If i am wrong that is one retarded rabbit for sure..

    1. Dax September 9, 2010 at 11:32 pm

I have no idea who Roga Rabbit is. But thanks to all who came to my defence. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  46. Jenni September 10, 2010 at 9:48 am

Poor Roga Rabbit is not man enough to use his real name whilst hurling unfounded insults. Dax – you do a terrific job and work hard at this site for the benefit of others. His words drown in a sea of compliments here! We love you Dax!!!

  47. Rene December 5, 2010 at 10:13 am

Hi Dax – can I do a review or comment on a restaurant if you have not been there yet?

  48. Kev April 3, 2011 at 3:17 pm

Dude, I just checked out your site again after a long lay-off. You’ve been working hard. Its looking really good…

  49. Jeanie Mc January 31, 2012 at 3:24 pm

You are a genius. Love your articles and opinions. Always to the point and entertaining.

  50. Noel February 14, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Sorry to tell you this, but my dog is called Dax. He’s a black and white shaggy ‘Boomer’ type maltese poodle. Super intelligent but barks a lot and is going deaf and losing his teeth due to old age. Bear any resemblence to your stunning good looks…..?

  51. Nothando December 3, 2012 at 1:15 pm
