The awards for the Wine Magazine Shiraz challenge sponsored by Brenn-O-Kem were held at Catharina’s restaurant on Steenberg estate (see my previous review of Catharina’s here). Catharina’s did not disappoint, the food was up to the usual high standard, as was the service.
The starters were served with the winner of the best value shiraz award, Obikwa Shiraz. At just over R20, this is really a good value wine and I think it’s better this year than last year. Then the main was served with the overall winner, Lands End Syrah 2008. This wine will appeal to a broad spectrum of tastes, but will hurt the wallet at R175 per bottle.
