I’ve attended most of the wine festivals in and around Cape Town at some point, but I’ve never been to one of Caroline’s wine reviews. I’m not sure why I haven’t ever made a point of attending as I have heard really good reports on them.
I met Caroline at her wine shop in town (Matador Cenre, 62 Strand Street) last year. I was invited there by a friend for a wine tasting. I was blown away when I walked in because the outside doesn’t really give any indication of how big it is inside. Not only is it big, it’s also beautifully laid out. It makes you want to browse the shelves for ages. It’s like a quiet oasis in the middle of town.
Caroline presented the wine tasting, a showcase of Italian wines which is her speciality. I was impressed at how knowledgeable she was and I enjoyed her casual presenting style. I spent some time chatting to her afterwards and choosing some wines to purchase.
So I received an email from Caroline the other day inviting me to her next wine review happening on the 26th July at the Westin Grand hotel. This is how she described it:
It is a showcase of 60 wineries that have consistently achieved the highest accolades in all the top competitive platforms. Each of the selected wineries is invited to show just one wine for tasting by the public. This must be their flagship wine, and it will be shown by the winemaker personally.
I like the fact that the winemaker is present, because that is not the case at many of the wine shows I go to. I readily accepted the invitation but I cheekily asked if I could have a few tickets to give away to my readers, to which Caroline kindly agreed.
So here’s the deal, two readers will win a pair of tickets each. All you have to do is send an email to dax@relaxwithdax.co.za with the subject: Caroline’s ticket competition. In the email include your name and cell number and the answer to this question: Where is Caroline’s other shop located? (I told you about the one in Strand Street, but there is another one.)
You can find the answer on the Caroline’s Fine Wine website.
The competition will close on Sunday the 17th and winners will be announced on Monday the 18th.
Those who wish to purchase tickets, can get them from Computicket. They are R115 each.

Hi Dax! Just checking if the winner’s been announced yet? Not quite sure where to look for it?
Sorry for the delay in announcing the winners. The two winners are:
Julie Lovesay
Greg Symons
Thanks all for entering, and if you didn’t win, I’d recommend you buy a ticket and attend this event anyway. It will be totally worth it.
